About the Position

The role of the Cemetery Services Management Officer coordinates and manages all aspects of cemetery management and operations to ensure the delivery of high quality, end to end cemetery services. You will be responsible for the delivery of all aspect of cemetery services including efficient and legislatively compliant administration activities from funeral bookings, funeral services and interment services, customer liaison and complying with legislation (including record keeping).

The role will also manage the operational aspects of the City's Cemeteries including burials, interments, memorialisation, site preparation, ongoing site maintenance, upkeep of all day to day operations including budget management whilst ensuring all facilities are compliant with legislation and best practice.

The Cemetery Services Management Officer will be responsible for:

  • Leading, directing and managing all operational and administration staff
  • Ensuring staff operate safely and provide a safe working environment for visitors and workers alike, and identifying risks and hazards in work areas and compliance to workplace health and safety
  • Regular reporting on cemetery operations and services ensuring alignment to resourcing, budgets and service specifications
  • Ensuring all capital expenses are defined and managed through project management methodology and ensuring compliance with Council standards and guidelines.
  • Planning operation activities, managing work schedules and the equipment. plant and reviewing best value for money business practices
  • Developing and providing services aligned to resources ensuring customer experiences are positive
  • Developing and implementing long term plans to ensure sustainability of City cemeteries and associated services

About You

  • Previous experience working in cemetery management, both in operational and service environment is highly desirable
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with particular emphasis in the areas of consultation, advocacy, negotiation, influencing conflict resolution and resilience in stressful and emotional situations.
  • A natural leader who champions change and develops people to achieve their personal and organisational goals.
  • High-level project management skills with the ability to develop, administer and manage a complex project and resources effectively that achieve work goals and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to respond to change and have an ability to influence a positive outcome.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety from both a leadership and personal perspective.
  • Ability to manage high pressure in a sensitive environment
