Dr John Rosenberg, QUT
BUILDING COMPASSIONATE COMMUNITIES
Dr John Rosenberg will explore how cemeteries and crematoria can be more engaged in local, grieving communities. Cemeteries and crematoria have always been places of memorialisation and remembrance, and there is increasing interest in expanding their role in the broader context of the Compassionate Communities movement.
In this presentation, methods will be explored as an approach to engaging with communities that is both robust and effective.

Vera Visevic, Partner, Mills Oakley Lawyers
THE LEGAL STATUS OF CREMATED REMAINS
Vera has over 20 years’ experience in the legal profession and heads up the Not-for-Profit team at Mills Oakley. In the not-for-profit sector, Vera focuses on governance and fundraising issues, mergers and divisions, establishment of charitable trusts and funds, tax concessions and exemptions, social enterprises, and regularly advises on constitutions. Vera has extensive experience in the cemeteries and crematoria industry and will explore the important topic and implications of the legal status of cremated remains.

Dr Kirstin Ferguson
WOMEN IN CEMETERIES NETWORKING BREAKFAST: CELEBRATING THE CONTRIBUTION OF WOMEN IN OUR CEMETERIES
This session is designed for women who work in the cemeteries and crematoria sector. The Guest Speaker for this session is Dr Kirstin Ferguson, named by the Australian Financial Review as one of "Australia’s 100 Women of Influence" and Kirstin will ensure this will be a stimulating start to the day’s activities. (Registration for this session a must – places will be limited).
Dr Kirstin Ferguson is one of Australia’s most experienced company directors with 10 years experience on publicly listed, private company, and not-for-profit boards and has received numerous awards during her career for leadership and governance. She is a member of national and international women’s organisations including Chief Executive Women, Women Corporate Directors and the Women’s Leadership Institute of Australia.

Dr Stephen Carter, Medical Physicist, Department of Health Queensland
CREMATION OF RADIOACTIVE MATERIALS AND IMPLANTS
Stephen is a Health and Medical Physicist and has worked in the Radiation Health Unit of Queensland Health for the past 25 years. His roles have changed over that time from operational work to providing advice and guidance on matters such as regulatory inspections and investigations, radiation safety and protection in health-care and industrial settings, health risk assessment, radiation monitoring, radioactive waste management, contaminated land, and emergency response.
In his presentation, Stephen will be covering the risks to cemetery and crematorium staff when handling the body or remains of persons who have recently been injected or implanted with radioisotopes as part of a diagnostic or therapeutic procedure. Including a discussion of: the properties of radioisotopes and radiation; the appropriateness of burial or cremation; exposure pathways and protective measures; radiation dose to workers.

ACCA CEMETERY & CREMATORIUM TOUR
(Wednesday 10th October)
This is your opportunity to view some of Brisbane’s unique cemeteries, crematoria, and memorial gardens each with their own specific attractions, challenges and opportunities. Mount Gravatt Cemetery and Crematorium, Centenary Memorial Gardens, and the historic Toowong Cemetery will be featured. This is a day for exploration and discussion, providing delegates the opportunity to apply the learned outcomes of future planning, disruption, and community engagement from the first two days of the conference.
